  1. You can't win on form alone, trust me. If a horse ran 7th in his last race you might say "that was a poor run" but it may not have been. The horse may have been wide, got blocked for a run or possilby only ran 1 lenght of the winner but ran 7th. Read the strewards report about their last run. In saying that, just because a horse ran well last start does in no way mean he/she is gonig to run well next start. The next thing I look at is their %. If a horse just won a race and he only wins 1 in every 5 or 6, they are unlikely to win their next start. A lot of trainers "set" their horses for certain races because the horses cannot maintain their form. A mare is more likely to keep winning or going well when she is in form than a horse. A consisent horse, or ones that try every time are much better to wager on. At the very least you know your mount is going to do everything they can to win, even if they can't.

For a consistent horse, weight really isn't an isssue but for a fickle horse, when they fell it becoming hard they will throw the towel in.

Lastly, look at why the horse may not have won. What I mean is, if it is a backmarker (a horse that settles mid-filed or worse) perhaps there was not enough speed on in the race. Maybe you have heard of this saying. For a backmarker to win the horses up front need to go relatively hard so they are worn out and are slowing down at the finish where as the backmarker is flying home. If you choose a front-running horse, you do not want there to be to many other "on pacers" in the race or it will have to do to much work and the race will be set up for a backmarker. (above statement) That last line really applies more to leaders than horses that sit handy. (second third fourth and even fifth) Last thing is you need to be able to work out some sort of speed map. You have to know where in the race you think every other horse will be. If you know which horses go forward and which go back you will have a much better chance of knowing how the race will be run and if it is going to be suitable for your horse to win. An example might be a backmarker may have had 4 previous runs where he ran no closer than 5th position. If there was no speed on in the race, check to see if he was the first of the backmarkers to come home.

I forget something. This SUX, but sometimes the track will be biased, favouring horses on the rail and sometimes horses swooping down the outside have the benifit. That is something you are going to have to look at on the day. Try never to be on the first race, have a look. Even look at the second.

    Sound hard? It is. lol

  2. form is their last few races and position etc

  3. I look at their previous races, and how they finished in them.  I try to bet on the ones that have finished the last 3 races in the top 3... usually that means lower odds, but then again, I am not in it to win $!

Some people also look at the kind of races they have run in the past, and what the track was like (i.e. wet, dry, etc), and compare that to the current race.  They look at how old the horse is, how many previous races.  They may even consider the jockey or the owner as factors.

    Good luck!

  4. Look at the numbers after it's name.0576ETC.They we're where

they finished in their races.See what distances they covered for

    the race and conditions.

  7. The best way to learn the form is to go to tvg.com and there is section that explains all in detail with a video.  its great and very informative.   It also lets you play for free with pretend money.  Check it out is all there.

Now here how i play.   I study the forms and pick an usually play an exacta box (quinella).   I always seriously consider the "track experts" picks and often defer to their picks.   I always play the trackmans picks as quinella in dogs.   I only go trifecta if i think there is 3 or 4  worthy of first place in field. I tend to stay away from horse on the far outside.....its just so easy for a good horse to be pushed too far out and cause them to run bad.....I would have to really like a horse in gate 7 or higher.   Once in a while I'll go for a superfecta in a small field of horses....but i never box it.  I will play it 2 or 3 different ways like 1234,  2134, 1236.

  8. Form is the placing of the horse in previous races. The going, distance of the race and weight it carried also have to be taken into consideration.

The form is not the be all of horse racing. Horses are like people, they can also have off days.

I like to bet on horses but I bet for the fun of it., never betting heavy or money I cannot afford to lose.

People pick horses in all manner of ways. A favourite name, place or just something that will take their fancy.

You can enjoy racing, but do not look at it as a way of making money.  Reading the racing papers will also give you further insight to the sport of Kings as it's called.

    Hope this helps.

  9. go to england and learn.

  10. 1st of all look at the type of track and how soft the ground is, this has a major effect on how a horse runs. Then look at the last few races its ran on that surface and finally how many races the jockey has won.

It helps to place bets eachway, you wont get the full returns from the bet, but if the horse places in the top 3 or 4 your bet wins

I dont condone betting styles and you do it at your own risk, just remember there are 3 windows for receiving bets and 1 for collecting winnings. So you do so at your own risk...
