I just learned how to knit with double pointed needles- the knitting itself isn't what I'm having trouble with; I have no idea how to cast off on DPNs.

How do you bind off on DPNs?

  1. Here is a link for you. Scroll down to the 3 needle bind off video

  2. I'm assuming you're making a tube, such as a sock.  Sometimes you have a marker on your needle so that you know where on the circle you started, and you would want to begin binding off in the same place.  Other times, it may not make any difference where on the circle you begin binding off.

You would bind off in the same way that you do when using two regular needles.  Knit two stitches, lift the first one over the second and off the needle.  Knit another one, lift the first one over the second and off the needle.  Keep going until you have no more stitches on the left needle to knit.  Set it aside and go to the next DPN.  When you have bound off all the stitches on all the DPN's and you are left with one loop, cut the yarn a few inches long, pull it through the loop and under the first stitch that you bound off so that you tie the circle of stitches together,  then weave in the end.
