How do you blend photos on gimp?

Mmm'kay, so I'm doing something for my friend's friend, & she wants me to edit a picture & put her, & Matthew Lush together, & make it look like their really together in the picture.

& surfing around the internet, I found out that you can do it on gimp, so I downloaded everything,

But, how exactly do you put the photos together? Like step by step?
