Question:

How do you block calls from collection agency, meant for someone else?

I recently changed my home phone number (land line). The new number previously belonged to someone who was being hounded by collection agencies. Now I am the one being hounded. The collections people (or as I refer them *&%$@*#'s) don't believe I am not the person they are looking for. I could change the number again, but I've just given it out to friends/family and on a whole bunch of job applications and resumes!

The phone company says changing it is the only thing I can do. They have a way to block local calls but nothing out of the area. Has anyone dealt with this?

  1. you shouldn't have to change it.

get the muber ( if they have one on caller id ] call them back and firmilaly say no. stop calling me, they dont live here.

or call your phone company and tell them to block their calls.

    hope i helped..!

  2. if no one will help you, then get a caller ID manager....its like a tele-zapper

  3. I have this very same problem.

Explain to the company that you just got this phone number, and that person doesnt have this number anymore.

If you tell them that person doesnt live there, they will keep calling, because they think you're lying.

This is the only way, you can not block these calls.

  4. you can order something online to block calls as the stores don't sell that.  go to telezapper.com and you can order that online to stop people from calling you.

  5. Tell the collection company that they do not live there and do not call back. If they do you will sue them for harrassment.  Be very strong with them.

The collection company is obligated to do as requested, just went thru this for my daughter as they started calling her cell. They stopped!

  6. Get on the do not call list. It will help. If you know the number they are calling from, get call block on your line and block the number. Worst case: get ur number changed.
