How do you block texts/calls from a Verizon Wireless cell phone?

Someone has been calling/texting me, and wont leave me alone. Is there any way to block one number from texting or calling you without having to change your number? If there is a way to do this without contacting Verizon, I would prefer it.

THIS IS IMPORTANT ALSO: what would happen if this bocked person called you? Would it just be one of those "this phone has been disconnected" messages?
