How do you boil an egg ?

I wanna learn but I don't know how to use the stove and I'm really hungry, any fool proof ways of doing so ?

  1. I put the eggs in cold water in a pot.

    Put on stove, bring to boil over high heat.

    Once it comes to a boil, I turn it off, cover the pot, and leave it to sit for 15 mins. Perfect eggs every time. And, it is easier to peel them under cold water. Best of luck!

    Julia Child's method

    I call it Julia Child's method, because according to my research she was the first one to document this method.

    Step 1: Choose eggs that are at least 14 days old.

    Step 2: Choose a cooking pot with a lid, and a colander

    Step 3: Place eggs in a pan.

    Step 4: Pour water in the pan, till the eggs are submerged and there is about 1" water on top of the eggs.

    Do not add salt to water. It will raise the boiling point of the water making the egg whites rubbery.

    Step 5: Turn on heat at high. Let the water come to a rolling boil.

    Step 6: As soon as the water starts to boil, turn off heat. Cover the pan with a lid and wait 20 minutes.

    Step 7: As soon as the 20 minutes are up, transfer the contents in to the colander and drain out the hot water.

    Step 8: Run cold water on the eggs with some ice. You want the eggs to cool as soon as possible to avoid formation of green around the egg yolk. I usually slightly crack the eggs and put them in the freezer for about half an hour. I don't let them freeze, I just want them to get cold as soon as possible. After half an hour, I move them to the refrigerator section.

    Use a large enough pot for the large size eggs to be able to move around. Fill it with enough cold water to cover the eggs 1-inch above. Use a *moderately-high heat to bring the water to almost, but not quite, a boil. Lower the heat to keep the water just below boiling temperature as some SMALL bubbles will appear. This is when timing begins for 10 minutes exactly. Throughout the cooking process, you can stir the eggs around in the pot very gently. This will help to keep the yolk CENTERED in the middle of the white, which makes the whites more presentable for stuffed eggs for appetizers. Then using a slotted spoon, immediately and gently remove the eggs from the pot and plunge them in a bowl of cold water to arrest their cooking.

    Peel eggs just before using them because the shells protect the whites from drying out and preserve flavor so that a whole boiled egg can be kept in the refrigeator for up to one week. Remember that peeling requires a light touch, roll the egg to create cracking and start at the wider end of each egg. Begin to peel away the shell in one strip. Some people prefer and find it easier to peel the shell under running water.

    *NOTE: High heat will toughen the whites and accelerate a chemical reaction between the iron of the yolk and the sulfur compounds of the white that results in a green discoloration of the yolks. Yuck!

    If you are successful, a classic hard boiled egg should have the yolk and white firmly set with a yolk that is pale yellow. ENJOY!
