Question:

How do you boot a computer from a Windows XP CD?

I've been trying to reformat my Windows XP computer, but when I put the CD into the computer and restarted it, it wouldn't let me boot with the CD. It said, "Boot from CD : ", but it never asked me to press any button to boot from the CD. So then I thought that maybe the boot sequence was not right, so I went into BIOS to check and it had CDROM as the "First Boot Device" and HDD-0 and Floppy as the Second and Third Boot Devices. Anyways, what am I doing wrong? How can I get my computer to boot from the Windows XP SP2 CD? Thanks!

  1. Greetings,

You are doing it right. I would suspect at this moment that you may have one of several issues then.

    a scratched disk

    -try it in another machine

    -clean it

    a failing optical drive

-try another boot disk as a test

-clean the optical drive with a optical drive cleaner kit

-try another cd/dvd drive (swap out)

    a badly burned XP disk.

    -acquire another XP disk

    a Oem computer

-use the media that came with the computer

    Regards
