I think you mean break.  Well it depends, do you want to get the handle away from the sledge metal thing?  That you would just need an axe or a saw.  Now for the actual metal, you will need something that cuts metal and patience.  Because of the density, it will take awhile to cut.

Slow it down.

If you mean 'break' then you will have a job as it is a solid lump of steel - you can break the shaft fairly easy though (personal experience).
