It's a carbon steel, full tang katana.

My friend needs to know how to break one, for God knows why.

  1. its easy just wack it into rocks, put it in a vice and smash it with a hammer. swords arent very tough. dont worry about shards, its carbon steel. it should be differentially tempered or tempered soft so it wont shatter. id still dull it as much as possible to be safer when it breaks. top made knives are tough, swords are not.

  2. yell hiyooooooooooooo and punch

  3. Fist off, wear as much protection as possible, you don't want razor sharp shards of metal flying around you.

Some basic shop tools would be needed.  I would mount the sword into a vice-grip that's securely mounted onto a surface that isn't going anywhere.

Then I would take a long piece of metal pipe (maybe 4 or 5 feet), large enough to fit the handle of the sword into.  Stick the handle in, and use the end of the pipe as a lever, so you can push or pull (or keep doing both to fatique the metal), until it snaps.

Another think you can do is to heat up the metal, and quickly cool it in ice water, a few times over and over to try to make the metal brittle at that point, then cover it with a towel, and hit it a few times with a hammer.

Good luck and don't get hurt.

  4. with a bigger sword
