What does it mean to bridge an amp and how do you bridge a 4 channel amp

If you need info on amp

5600 max amp

Output power (Max): 5600W (1400W x 4)

Output power (RMS): 560W (140W x 4)

Frequency response: 10Hz - 20KHz ± 1dB

Input sensitivity: < 250mv

Separation scale: > 45dB

Stereo output: 2 - 16 Ω

Bridge output: 4 - 16 Ω

  1. Typically, most amplifers are bridgeable.

    If you bridge an amp, you are using 2 channels to make 1. This is mainly done for subwoofers, as it changes it from stereo to mono and doubles the power.

    What you need to do (after reading the manual for the amp to make sure im correct) is to connect the negative of the sub to the negative of one channel, and the positive of the sub to the positive of the other channel. (typically, you connect it to the outside terminals on the rear channels - eg( +) - +( - )

    This will &#039;bridge&#039; the two channels into one, and provide the sub with twice as much power. It also alters the ohm output, so check with the specs on the back of the sub to make sure that the sub is able to run that number of ohms. Most subs are now around 2 - 4 ohm stable so it should  be fine.
