How do you build a Three Dimentional 1700's ship?

I need this for school as a history project, I'm not looking for exact instructiuons. I need just an outline or ideas and I'll be good from there. Thanks!

  1. In the 1700's it was customary to first carve a half model the shape of the ship although by this time ships were also drawn in three dimensions pretty much just like a mechanical drawing is done today. Mostly governments and rich owners such as Dutch traders or the East India Company used drawings. Everyone else used half models. The half model or drawing will give you your frame shapes. They laid the keel and then attached the frames to the keel. Then they planked the frames to complete the ship. Also there were specialty trades. Each trade did a different part. There were spar makers, framers plankers, caulkers, carpenters, sail makers, blacksmiths, painters, possibly loftsmen and pattern makers. I'm probably leaving some trades out.
