Question:

How do you build a flying wing or a gliding wing?

i have tried the COG trick but i dont know how to build a simple little toy wing glider, i can build them really well out of paper but i want ot build one say out of foam or balsa wood, does anyone know how to build one?. or atleast know a formula or some knowledg on how to balance a wing to make it fly

  1. You need to calculate the mean aerodynamic chord of the wing and then adjust the centre of gravity so that the wing balances aprox 25% or 30% back from the wing leading edge  where the M.A.C. is located

    This is easier than it sounds but you will need to look at the diagram I link to. http://adamone.rchomepage.com/wing1.gif

    A nürflugel or flying wing also needs to have a reflexed trailing edge, although you can set up the elevons to achieve this if you make it radio control.

    If it is a chuck glider with no control, you need to make the trailing edge bend upwards to that it will tend to correct any tendence to nose dive.

    To make your own, rather than buying one of the rather cheap kits available, you can cut the wing from polystyrene foam using a nichrome wire stretched taut in a frame and attached to a car battery at opposite ends. You carefully align plywood wing section templates at opposite ends of the block of foam and use these to guide the hot wire to cut the wing section. It takes quite a bit of practice.
