Question:

How do you build your own greenhouse?

We are in the north east and want to build a small greenhouse to grow our own plants and flowers. How do you heat in the cold winter months? What are the best materials to use? And any more info would be helpful.

  1. I don't know about how to keep it warm but the design in this link is a very easy one to assemble.  If you put a stone bottom and place the unit in full sun it should do pretty well at keeping warm, unless of course you want to raise vegetable and flowers for winter use.  Stone or concrete hold heat.

Many people use a kit and if you want it to stay warm in the winter, most people use a greenhouse heater.  Many of the kits use heavy plastic for the walls.  Some people build them out of old windows and patio doors.  It depends upon how much you want to spend.  Usually in the summer you have to have some sort of shade and a fan because it will get too hot.  This gardenweb forum has a whole category for greenhouses with lots of good info:
