Hi,

I would like to buy a .co.uk domain name and set up a personal website.

I would also like to have a email address with the domain name.

Could someone take me through the whole process and give useful website addresses?

Many thanks

  1. They don't let you buy a co.uk, unless you own a company which is active in UK. Within 3 days after purchasing you will receive an email from registrar asking needed documents to confirm your purchase.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

One of these services is reachable at: http://bluehost-service.atspace.com . Their service is really great and easy to use. This company offers "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get).

  2. Great! So lets get started first youve got to buy a domain (I got mine of 1and1 ( www.1and1.co.uk )), Its pretty easy you can pay by direct debit, paypal or card, for a quick domain use the inbuilt website creator.

BUT I STRONGLY RECCOMMEND INSTEAD YOU USE www.wix.com

to make the site, after creating a account there and making a website cick embed copy all that code save it as a notepad document on your desktop SAVE IT AS (IN THE SAVE AS) as index.html.

LOG IN to http://admin.1and1.co.uk and in another browser window go to ftp://yoursite.co.uk (replace yoursite with you website name) copy the user name and password AFTER YOU HAVE CLICKED FTP ACCESS IN THE ADMIN.1AND1 WINDOW

    >>IF YOU GET CONFUSED CALL 0871 641 21 21 (24 hours a day, seven days a week - including bank holidays)<<

  3. alright so you want a .uk domain and email address. there is only one thing which you will have to do..

create a new profile stating them that you live in united kingdom and state the address of your uk house. the address, the pincode and the country thats UK. create the yahoo profile with these things in mind. then they will give you a .co.uk email address or they may even give you .com according to the availability of the server spacings. now we move on to your .uk domain. buy cyber space from yahoo for your web site on clickin to the "start small business" tab on yahoo.com   you will be asked for your website name and the .uk domain will also appear if you login with your newly created profile where you have mentioned the country UK as i said earlier.

    loads of luck buddy.

  4. www.fasthosts.co.uk is a good company to use.

For an annual fee you buy a license to use a free .co.uk domain name, the hosting provider will forward surfers web browsers who type in your web address to their servers where you have uploaded your website.

  5. The overall process goes like this. First go and register a domain(that will be your web address). Then buy a hosting account and their you can host your files with your domain name.

Register and create a web host your domain thorugh here.

    or

    http://godaddy.com

  6. go to www.1and1.co.uk

You can get a web site, domain name and email there. It is about the cheapest on the market and I found them very good with technical assistance too.

    Good luck

  7. I have always wondered how to do that?

  8. Buying a domain name is easy and there is lots of choice.Setting the site up means either learning some HTML or using a template already designed for you.All you have to do is write your own content.WEB USe magazine has a forum for advice on this : www.webuser.co.uk

You could try www.one.com which will give you a domain name and webspace plus E-mail. It also has web page templates that you can use to design your site. All you would need to do is follow the on screen instructions. There are other template based sites around. You can track them all down via google.

  9. Your Internet Provider may offer such services.

Alternatively you could try someone like http://123-reg.co.uk
