  1. Fiction.  We don't do that with people.

When a person's condition is hopeless, our goal is to make what's left of life as comfortable as possible, and that is called palliative care.  Sometimes we'll do surgery to make life easier (like a colostomy to open up bowel obstructed by cancer, for example).  It won't cure anything, but relieves pain.

  2. do you mean when a patients situation is so hopeless that the patient of patients family can ask a doctor to help him/her..you know pass away. its called euthanasia (not sure if thats spelled right) and it is illegal.

  3. Ain't no such condition. for humans.  Happens with horses when they break legs.

  4. It's called euthanasia.  Although it is illegal, there are still people who find a way to do it.

  5. It is called MURDER. We do not do it.

  6. You don't call it anything because YOU DON'T DO IT!!!  I work in an emergency department/trauma center and there is ALWAYS SOMETHING TO BE DONE UNLESS THE FAMILY STATES UPFRONT THAT THEY WANT NOTHING DONE.  If the family is not there and a DNR or other do not resuscitate order is not in place, then we do everything in our power.  It is simply not in the nature of true health care professionals to kill someone.  We may help someone die in comfort if there truly is nothing to be done, like hospice or end of life care, but we will NEVER EVER EVER just give someone something to kill them or end their life prematurely.

  7. euthanasia...however it's highly illegal to do it with humans...remember Dr. Jack Kevorkian?
