my mom cans hers the good ole way...boil the jars and the lids...have to cook the tomatoes....then add to the hot jars and add the lids.....if u can push on the lid and u DONT hear a clicking sound then they r sealed....if u hear a click on some then put them in the frig and eat them with in a week......

Visit your local county extension office and buy a new Ball's or Kerr guide to home canning. Do NOT use someone's old canning book or Grandma's folk methods since canning methods have changed over the years and many of these methods are no longer safe.

There are many different ways to can tomatoes ~ the more common method involves putting peeled tomatoes directly in a glass jar, adding some salt and vinegar, covering them with boiling water, putting on a lid, and processing them in a boiling water bath canner for x amount of minutes.
