  1. To transfer the picture from the memory card, plug the camcorder's USB port into the Mac's USB port. The memory card will show up as a USB mass storage device.

    To transfer the video from the miniDV tape, you need to buy a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable and use the DV port (IEEE1394a, firewires, i.Link - all the same thing) on the camcorder.

    In the Macintosh environment, you do not need any special drivers. USB will work and Firewire transfer will work without using the CD that came in the box.

    To import video, connect the camcorder with the firewire (not USB) cable. The camcorder should also be connected to external power. The camcorder should be in Playback mode. Launch iMovie. Name the project. Select whether DV or DV widescreen. Create. Import.
