  1. Get him to a vet first, all 'new' birds need a checkup with a microbial and CBC. While there, you can get advice for tiel caring from an expert!

Did you say training? Research how to clicker train! I just acquired a new budgie, it took me about 4 months to get him to the point of tameness I like. Every morning (less now) I clicker train him. He knows how to wave, turn around and spin around his perch. In addition to teaching mindless tricks (but it's great for the bonding process), you can teach how to step up and accept petting.

Keep in mind that if you push him he will become conditioned to run away. But if you make him WANT you, you are conditioning him to love you. Treats, soft talk and doing what the bird wants you to do(to an extent) are all crowd pleasing. Step 1: Make him like you!

Also, seed rewards for clicker training work much better when the bird is on a pelleted diet, or in the morning, when they await their first meal.

Please keep me updated, and don't forget to look up clicker training birds on youtube!

Parrots need to stay busy while in a cage, toys to preen, solve, shred, eat and hide in are all good options. www.drsfostersmith.com

    Good Luck!

  2. A variety of food, fresh water, a few toys, and a cuttlebone. The sticks are called perches.
