How do you care for a hermit crab?

Grayish color, small. I accidentally took it while forging for shells. It's limp, probably molting or dying. I think I can create a similar habitat, but how do I feed it?

  1. put it in water get diffrent types of shell sizes & get it foood and a mate.

  2. You may well have a marine hermit crab, in which case you would need to set up a saltwater aquarium for it. If it's limp, my guess is it's dying, frankly, although of course I hope not. Poor thing. Really, the kindest thing you could do is put it back where you found it.

If that's not an option, ask at the Hermit Crab Association (link below). They offer excellent care advice for land hermit crabs; there is a section for marine hermit crabs as well.

Be advised that caring for these little guys is absolutely nowhere near as cheap, fast or easy as people are telling you-- expect to lay out a hundred bucks or more on a good initial setup.

  3. for water, you need a small sponge and get it wet. and to feed them im pretty sure you have to buy certain food from the pet store, and u also need different shells because they need to switch shells as it grows.. or just simply go to a pet store and ask them

  4. You need the sponge like everyone says, and then you local pet store should have something.

    Just an example:
