Question:

How do you carve in snowboarding?

I have been snowboarding for about 3 years now and I haven't really thought about learning how to carve. I always used to go down regular, break, switch to goofy, break, switch to regular, etc. Does anyone have some good advice on how to carve correctly on the snowboard without falling hard. Thanks!

  1. Find powder, packed greens are the hardest place to learn because it is easy to catch an edge.

Practice going from regular(or goofy depending on your style)  to either heel-side or toe.  Practice both.

lean forward.  keep the weight even on the board. Leaning back might feel good but it doesn't work.

Once you feel fine on each it's time to transition between them (al la carve:)

I started by going from my least comfortable side(toe for me) to heel(favorite side).  Then stop.  Get on comfortable side switch to other side.  Stop.  Back to comfortable side and so on.

    Powder. Practice. Patience.
