  1. put your thumb on the line, relase the stop, and give it a pitch. let go at about 2:30 and right before the bait hits the water, put your thumb back on the line or you will have a heck of a back lash.  I am no expert at the task, and it takes some practice.  I prefer the old open face, a lot more room for error.

  2. Leave your rig (hook, bait, sinker) hang from the tip of the rod.

Adjust the friction  button (lever in free spool) so that your rig falls slowly to the ground. From a height of 6 feet  it should take about 4 seconds to hit the ground.

Take of the free spool , cast and press the free spool button or lever when your rod tip reaches at an angle about 45 degrees with your body. Quickly put your thumb on the spool and stop it when the bait hits the water.

If you mess up  more than 10 times buy a spinning reel it is so much easier.

    Tight lines good luck.

  3. Press down the button and cast like normal.  Some reels have a braking system built in to prevent professional overruns as I like to call them.  (also called birds nests).  The best advise is to keep that thumb on the spool and apply some drag while casting to prevent the spool from spinning faster than the line coming off.  Keep playing and you will get the hang of it!!  And remember that birds nests happen to the best of us from time to time!!   Good luck!!
