How do you catch a bird that is stuck in a vent?

Today I heard a scratching noise coming from our air vent in the ceiling of our apartment. I realized a bird was stuck in it when I saw bird poo on the back of our couch. The landlord said it will find its way out but I am afraid if it doesnt, it will die and stink up the whole apartment. How do I get it out and set it free? Has anyone else had this problem?

you open the vent where it enter from and let it find it's way out.
