  1. Put either dumplings, Wurst, pastries, Spargel, Braten, Spätzle and or Brotzeit while singing Das Lied der Deutschen.

    heh heh gets them everytime.

  2. Browns are notorious for feeding at night. Have you tried throwing a spinner or spoon around after dark? Even swinging a streamer in your usual drifting/feeding lanes might hook you up.

Learn the lay of the river well enough that you can negotiate around the rocks, drop-offs etc. when you are fishing in the dark..

  3. Blue Fox Super Vibrax Plated Spinners, works every time. This lure drives them crazy. The lure vibrates while it's in the water and pisses the trout off. Even if they don't bite they will still follow it as you reel it in.

  4. try gernades and get them when they float to the top with a dip net.   works like a champ

  5. If you are fishing under the Big Bear d**n you are in violation of the law by using anything other than a single barbless hook. Try using flies, big black ants are one great bait there, yellow jackets as well but you must smash the barbs closed....

  6. Brown Trout are the "clever ones", by this i mean that they wont always just take anything, they are wise, fly fishing is the best method, if you do fly fish, the chances of a brown taking big artificial patterns is very small, your best option would be a nymph, such as the pheasant tail nymph or a hares ear, browns often will rise for dries depending on their size, the smaller ones being their favorite, also try the copper john nymph fished on a 11 ft fluorocarbon leader to prevent spooking the fish. Generally if your using a smaller fly the browns will take it as opposed to a big streamer on a size 8 long shank.

  7. try a red devil or dare devil.  Browns only feed every few days, so flys might not work.  the red devil will make him mad, so he will attack.  Only drawback is, it has to be a sunny day, can't be overcast for it to work.

  8. It's best to try to find out what it is eating, and try to match that with a fly.

If you aren't interested in sticking with a fly rod, they LOVE crayfish, and also earthworms.
