How do you catch a wave on a skimboard?

This is hard to answer. Typically you have to catch backwash out to oncoming wave and then turn 180 degrees efficiently into the oncoming wave almost like doing a u-turn some people use seawalls or very steep beaches with large shorebreak to acheive this. It takes a lot of practice and patience and probably quite a few bumps and bruises.
