How do you catch and attract a snake in your yard?

Near my house are rat and garter snakes and id really like to catch one.

just buy one from the pet store..."wild snakes" are likely to have parasites (internal and external).  garter snakes are usually around $10.00 or so the set up for a baby garter snake should cost around $75.00 which you would have to buy either way.

I don't think you can attract snakes - just have your eye out for them and wait.

i think u should buy a mouse and put it in a cage then they will go in the cage and then the snake will be in the cage when u get up in the morning and u can pick up the cage and there you have a snake.

This is what i would do i put a large object that a snake would be able to hide under something like a log or rock and just give it sometime and check everyday and see if one's under there and then all you have to do is pick it up which shouldnt be to bad if ur not afraid of em....but i would check under anythng thats in ur yard at moment just to see if u can find anything

I dont think you can attract them...but you can look for Garter snakes around water, because they are semi aquatic, Rat Snakes are often found in warm swamps, and are also common in abandoned buildings and barns.
