I am a bird researcher and I love birds I need to catch a yellow and black finch only. I have a bird cage so I can look at them. I tied a string on the door of the bird cage and put the string over a tree branch and pulled it and it opened they go around it but not in it. also when I let go of the string the cage door closes how else can I catch a bird without spending money?

  1. the more experienced bird researchers use nets and things but i would stay away from that because you could harm a bird. i don't think you can really catch one. their really skitish.

  2. me thinks you'd do better to spend some money take a course get a licence  like the rest of  us who actually know what we're doing have had to do so we can do it LEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. It's safer to do your research from afar. I say this because one, it is never safe to catch a wild animal, and 2 most birds carry (and I'm sure you know) mites...it would be better for you to visit your local pet store that carries birds. They are not that expensive

  4. You need to stop breaking the law..if you are a researcher, why do you not even know the name of this species of bird you are trying to capture..and why are you using a cage?  Researchers do not capture birds in cages.  Also, WHO is your so called permit from??  It can take a year or more to obtain this type of permit..and you must be very experienced to obtain such a permit, so I really doubt they would be handing out permits to just anyone doing research in their own backyard..let alone someone that knows NOTHING about the bird they are studying.  Please leave these birds alone, you can be fined or jailed for harming them in any way and being in possession of them.

  5. Real researches just observe the birds in their natural surroundings with binoculars. Actually, capturing a wild bird and keeping it for any length of time is illegal as well. If you want to research gold finches, read up on them, put out some food they'd like, and watch. If you'd like to observe reactions, try doing the experiments outside. A wild caught bird is not going to act or behave anything like it normally would if you capture it and stick in a cage.

If you want something you can keep in a cage, go buy a pet finch.
