Could someone Muslim explain to me about the practice of Ramadan?

I understand that during this time period you do not eat at all from sun up until sun down but are there any other practices during this time? How special is it to you? Do you treasure it?

  1. it meas a lot to me.......love this month!

as well as a mourning month (on specific dates), when Ameer-ul-Momineen (as) got struck by the poisonous sword of ibne muljim (laeen)!

  3. Salam for you my dear friend. We celebrate ramadan by fasting since fajr or dawn before sun rise upto sun set on maghrib time.We do not eat ,smoke and drink any thing at all.We should avoid bad doing and multify good doings .We should feel more social , love  and help the poor.We should practise more prayings or salats at night such as taraweeh after isya and zikir or remind allah and du'a.We should recite Qur'an everyday during noon and or at night after isya time and taraweeh. We have an iftar in togetherness at home with the whole family and make mahgrib prayer at home with the whole family as a thank to Allah who has given us healthiness and subsistence. Ramadan is a special month for all muslims. In ramadan Allah will give rewads doubled for good doings.Allah will bless us and Allah will forgive

all our mistakes We will come at the end of ramadan sinless just like a new born baby.We will treasure it.At the first of syawal we will celebrate as a winner and we will wear the best clothes and shake hands among the family members, neighbours, relatives and friends

We will serve ourselves with special halal foods and drinks.after we finished iedl fitri salats at the mosque or on the field

We hope during ramadan to feel lailatul qadar while we are praying or zikir because its reward or pahala is better than 1000 months.

We should continue the good doings made during ramadan in the future months.

  4. It is indeed very special because it is a month of taking personal stock.  It is a month of serious self reflection and contemplation.  It is a month for asking for forgiveness.  Many times personal disputes are resolved during ramadan because people feel more humbled during this month.  We have special evening prayers which are best to attend in the mosque.  We try to finish reading the entire Quran also during Ramadan.  Believe it or not, we wait all year for this time and when it is over we are extremely sad.  Many people may focus just on the fasting, but for us, the spiritual aspects of ramadan overpower anything else, including our hunger.

  5. Ramadan is very special to me.  It's a month where every Muslim will fast including no food, drink, smoke, or sexual activity.  It's a very awesome month where we can focus on the same thing.  We can all relate to each other and be so close to God.  We celebrate it at the end of the month with a holiday called Eid al Fitr.  We celebrate with food and family and friends.  Ramadan is a month that every Muslim can relate to people that are not as fortunate as others and also can focus on Islam.

  6. We fast from Dawn to Sunset. We eat a breakfast called suhoor around 4am with family. We break fast at sunset at the mosque with a date and milk with the community. In my community the mosque provides dinner every night of Ramadan.

We pray special night time prayers called Taraweeh. During these prayers for each night of Ramadan, the imam recites an entire juz or part of the quran. We also are supposed to read the entire Quran during Ramadan!

The last 10 days of Ramadan are really special because we believe Al Quran was revealed at this time. So, we perform a worship called an itekaf which is a late late night prayers. We end the itekaf with suhoor.

After Ramadan, we have Eid ul Fitr, which celebrates the end of the fast. In my community, the mosque usually has a carnival or something. In my house, we try to invite people over for dinner because there is a great reward in feeding a fasting person. In my house also, we try to gather for halaqas or circles to talk about Islam, fasting, Ramadan, praying, etc. I'm looking forward to Ramadan, and I hope this answered your question. Please e-mail me if you need any clarification. :) Ramadan reminds me a lot of revivals at church....there is a great sense of community, sisterhood and brotherhood during Ramadan.

  7. well it's not just fasting. ramadan runs for 29-30 days . yes we give up not just food and drink but s*x as well during the daylight hours. we increase our prayers and read the Qu'ran and visit w/ friends. i know my friends and i get together and have study groups while the men are at the masjid having their study groups and we have a special prayer at night at the masjid each night called the tahweeah prayer. at sunset we break fast w/ our friends /family. it means a lot to me. b/c it brings you closer to God as well us increasing you in both knowledge letting go of wordly desires. God does so much for us in our daily lives that how can you NOT to something that is pleasing to HIM. yes i treasure it a lot,not to mention last ramadan i had brain surgery and well i'm here and glad to be able to participate fully this year. i fasted all the way up to the day of my surgery, even though i had a valid reason not to fast. that's how strong my faith was and important that ramadan is to me.

thanks for being respectful.we have some many ill mannered people who come to this section that it saddens me.
