  1. open it in word and save as to a new file type or on the toolbar of the window its saved in click on folder options and uncheck hide extensions for known file types and then you can change it manually

  2. If you just change the extension the file will become unreadable as it will be the incorrect format. You need to open it in a word processor which understands the different formats and the use file/save as and select the new type. I suggest Open Office from http://openofficeorg. Changing the extension does NOT change the file type.

  3. Open the document, then click on file, save as, then select the extension you want from the list, then save it.  That way, you'll be creating a new document and you'll have copies of each version.

  4. Microsoft Works files are not compatible with Microsoft Office, it's as simple as that. You need to save it as a .doc file or export it as plain text in txt. You can change the file extension but it won't be very pretty.

**In explorer go to "Tools->Folder Options..."

    **Click the "view" tab.

**Un-check "hide extensions for known filetype"

    **Save settings

**Right click on the file to change the extension

    **Click "Rename"

**Change the ending .wps to .doc

  5. Double click MY COMPUTER, and browse to where you have the WPS file stored.

Right-click on the file name and a menu will pop up. Choose RENAME. Type in the name of the file, a period, and the letters doc with no spaces.

That's all there is to it.
