How do you change available physical memory to be higher on Win XP pro?

I just added 1G Ram memmory onto my dell dimension 3000 desktop and it says I have low Physical Available memory only like 49M.

  1. do you have and video card or onboard video?

    maybe you could try and tell you pc with the bios to use less video ram. This will should give you more memory.

    change virtual memory  

  3. The normal formula for virtual memory is 1.5 times that of your physical memory.

    1/ Click the Start button

    2/ From the Start menu Click Control Panel

    3/ When the Control Panel window opens click the System Icon

    4/ In the System Properties window click the Advanced tab

    5/ The top section of the Advanced tab window is market Performance.

    6/ Click the Settings button

    7/ The Performance Options window opens

    8/ Click the Advanced tab

    9/ At the bottom of the window you will see a section marked 'Virtual Memory' Click the Change button
