In dreamweaver 8 if you put up a set of keywords and you deside to change them how do you take down the old keywords

And also could you just confirm that I do or do not need to put up separate keyword for each page

  1. When you have the page open that you want to change keywords on, at the top left of the window you should see three options, Code, Design and Split.

If you select, Code or Split you should be able to see your Meta "keywords."  After Content= there are " " with your key words separated by commas.  You can change the new words for the old, just keep them separated by commas.  When you are done, post it to your site and check to make sure you have not left some open code.  If it looks right you can look at the view source in your browser to see the change has taken place.

Before you start to mess with the meta tags, make a copy of your old page, call it by a different name so that if you really s***w things up and can't figure it out, you can fall back on the original.

You do not really Have to have Different Keywords on every page but a little variation is good.  I have to assume that every page of your site is a little different so aside from your main words you should try to highlight some other keywords you would like to be found under.

Now for the really tough news...

Remember not so long ago in the time before Google, when Yahoo was the biggest search engine around and it looked like nothing would ever change that?

When you would do a search for "teen clothing" on Yahoo, you would have to go through three pages of things that had nothing to do with teens, or teen clothing.  The reason was that webmasters were spamming the heck out of things like Keywords, and hiding the entire encyclopedia in the web pages (cloaking) so that Yahoo thought their site was relevant to every search.  The people of the land were very sad.  Then along came an upstart search engine that filtered out the spam, and gave less value to the "Keywords" because they had been so abused by the unscrupulous.

So by all means mess with your keywords, but understand that in order for it to have a positive effect your web pages themselves have to prove to the Search Engines that they deserve to rank well in the results.  Keywords alone will have very little effect on it unless they are in the right places, in the right context, in the right ratios in the body of each page.

    Good Luck
