    Pretty much like the link above. But instead of using the besier tool you can use the eraser or something else similar.

    If you want to add a background just open or make you background in a new layer and drag the layer to be on the bottom of your cut out picture.

    Sorry i can't be that detailed about this but you have to expirment before you can be a pro at these things.

  2. open image in gimp,

    duplicate background layer,

    create new layer with white or transparency,

    disable lower background image,

    erase around items on duplicate layer,

    the white will show through,

    then open and copy another background you want to use,

    copy and paste new background over white layer,
