  1. mark t is correct but in addition to that, once the oil is to the level plug and before removing the pump from the oil drain hole, check the oil level at the reservoir in the engine compartment. if the level is down, ensure the level plug is firmly sealed first and then pump more oil into the leg until at the full mark at the reservoir. then you can remove the pump and refit the drain plug.

  2. with the boat out of the water and the lower unit down and level, remove the drain plug and drain the oil into a pan. You will need to remove the vent plug that is above the drain also. Its better if the oil is a little warm. When the oil is done draining you can either take the tuibe of oil or the pump with lower unit oil and insert it in the drain hole. Pump it in until a solid stream of oil comes out of the upper vent hole. Put in the vent plug and then the drain plug. Make sure that both plugs have washers on them that are in good shape. Tighten them up. When you have the drain plug out check out the magnet on it for metal particles. If its loaded with them it could indicate a problem. Also check out the oil as it drains. If it looks milky that indicates water in the oil, a sign that your lower unit seals are bad.
