  1. There are several different gearboxes depending on the year, some have no filler plug and are filled via the breather or via the reversing light switch. The fiat spec for the oil is tutela sc 75 synthetic. This is an api gl-5 spec oil no the usual stuff you pick up.

  2. The gearbox oil on a Boxer is measured as 'full' when it is up to the level of the filler plug.

This is the plug which is found at the rear and rear-facing BUT forward and slightly above the large cross member.

You will need to buy a new copper compressible washer which sits on the gearbox oil filler plug.  If you drain the oil by removing the g/box drain plug, you will require two copper compressible seals.  They are 'use once and discard'.

The g/box filler and drain plugs will require a quarter inch square (6mm) tapered drain-plug spanner.

The gearboxes are often found to be full of water and gearbox oil (EP75/90) and is a milky fawn colour (emulsified oil and will need a complete change.  The manual states 5.3 litres but I can usually only get 2 litres in after a complete drain down!  Clean the metal swarf off the drain plug magnet when you remove the drain plug.
