  1. Try turning your horse to the right or the left. If he turns easier and sharper to the left, then he is on the left lead. If he turns easier and sharper to the right, then he is on the right lead. Cantering on the correct lead will also feel more comfortable.

  2. You don't because you are stitting. You check your lead after you canter.

  3. if you cant feel it, then just look down

  4. It is improper to look down while cantering to check your lead.  Through practice and persistance you will learn how to feel the proper lead.  The rocking motion of the canter will clue you in, in the canter the outside hind leg starts the gait, this is followed by the inside hind and outside front leg landing together and the inside front leg lands last, no matter how straight the horse travels at the canter there will always be a tilt in the direction of that leading front leg.  If you try to look for your lead you will throw your own body off balance and in turn you will throw your horse off balance.  Not to mention that this is a major fault in the show ring.  Don't be in a rush to learn, you need to have patience, you will get it.

  5. Yep ,,if you can not feel it,, Look  down  only with your eyes ,, Because if you tilt your head to much down he might just stop cantering ,,

So barely look down,at the shoulder in the way you are going ,It should be the leading front,, leg

If you have problems with it allot ? ask for the canter , close your eyes  for a stride or two , , and try to feel ,it,,

    Good luck
