  1. To check your PSN messages you have to be logged in to PSN. The way PSN works, the only way you can log in is from a ps3 with your account on it. There may well be some misguided people coming up with meaningless little hacks such as spoofing PSN from a PC, or convincing PSN that your pc is really your PS3. But all you will get for your trouble if you follow these people, is find yourself banned from PSN, and maybe watch your ps3's firmware permanently delete itself too.

There are absolutely no mods or hacks of the ps3 itself, it is built as a loyal component of the PSN, the copy protection and other major functions are encoded in hardware and can't be bypassed, and there is no possibility of custom firmware. If someone has successfully spoofed PSN into believing a pc was a ps3, you can expect Sony to fix the problem with new updates, root certificates, new hardware authentication methods but, worst of all, ways to detect spoof log-on attempts, which if they catch you doing it will get you banned from PSN for a EULA violation. Being banned from PSN means no firmware, so that even if your firmware doesn't self-delete, it will make half your games and all your online games worthless by the time the next update happens.

Sony holds all the cards with the ps3, there's people rushing to try to hack it but they will all be s******g themselves. It's Sony's box and you need to be in Sony's good graces for it to work right.

  2. If its anything like xbox live it should be on the playstation network website.
