How do you choose or determine your future spouse if you were/are single and ready for marriage?

Is a person's looks more important to you? If yes, why is looks so important in your decision to marry someone?

Please share your philosophy?

Good looks are important but it is not the most important consideration.  What I'm looking for is someone with a good heart

(literally and figuratively) who is up to the challenge of "in sickness and in health; for better or for worse."  After all, we're going in for the long haul; the whole nine yards!

Someone once told me, 'you just know.'  I never really understood that until I found my love.  It is never wise to completely abandon logic, but when it comes to love, sometimes you don't need to prove it logically.  You simply know, that this is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.  Don't let solely logic convince you are in love enough to marry someone.

Be honest friend.  You'll never find one if you really searching for perfectness.  Accept what he or she is....never try to change him or her just to suite you. Okay...

The word choose or determine for me had conflicting meaning (so correct me if i am wrong)Do you have many relationships at the same time? If the answer to this is yes, you are not ready yet or you just wanted to play safe in a relationship. But the truth is you are the only person who can decide if you are ready to get married yourself. Agreeing to what the lady said above you must find a partner first and then know each other (take note, i said partner not partners ok) and then that the time you can decide if all thing go well for both of you. In fact love always get in the way when we least expect it. What I can say to you is only my opinion (can't say for others) If i am to ask if looks is important to me in a relationship I can definitely say no immediately maybe it can only give good impression but what matters most is the personality of the person himself (looks can be deceiving as others say) so talking to not so good looking person can do you no harm maybe you find them more interesting than the ones you always admire. ONE SHOULD GET A PARTNER FIRST.

after you solve that dilema,

then that's the time to think,

BUT personally.. if i am to choose,

i'd prefer a decent looking guy.

he need not be gorgeous.. just quite handsome.

and umh, he should have brains as well.

Only naive people would say that looks don't matter.  This is the person you are going to spend you life with and he/she will be a co-parent of your offspring, certainly you don't want your children look ugly or disfigured.  Good genes is important, if your would be mate is sickly chances are your children would be sickly too.  Find someone that complements you and that you could live with in peace, someone capable of supporting not just himself or herself but have an ambition too (not ambitious).

Remember marriage is not just sexual relation, emotional relation but it is also financial relation (business).  Once you got married everything you earn during that union is conjugal property.  Marriage is not all love, love would eventually settle down but both of you should remain funny and caring for each other and your children.  s*x should not be a basis for marriage, but a good s*x partner is spice in that relationship.  Your would be spouse should complete you as much as you complete the other.

If you will be lucky to find a mature person to fit the picture, then go for it.  Nothing in life is certain, and people change.  But at least set a criteria that would weed out bad prospects.

Looks are not really necessary but they are important, yes. You don't want your kids to be laughed at, right? But then, again, the way a person carries himself or herself is what matter's most. Looks can be deceiving sometimes, so I'd rather go for the one who oozes with confidence (but not to the point of being fresh), and charming. Also, he should have a sense of maturity and responsibility (hey, we're talking about marriage here...),
