The quirkier your method the better... e.g does the name of the horse have some significant tie with an event in your life?

  1. One thing I know is that since 1970, every winner of the Grand National has recorded at least one victory over 3 miles or further before winning it! So any horse that hasn't won over 3 miles or further before the National, I eliminate!

And of course, since Red Rum in 1957, no winner has carried more than 11st 5lbs.

There has been no winner younger than 8 years old for 67 years.

That eliminates quite a few for me, and I go from there!

  2. I am an ex bookie, and make a note of these horses. Worth a pound on each!

    1. Numbersixvalverde 14/1

    2. Dunbrody Millar 66/1

    3. Parsons Legacy 50/1

4.Cowboy Boots at 100/1 is worth an each way bet.

Or pick your own, but Irish Horses always seem to win the national more than others, and 9 year old horses do too. So pick an irish 9 year old.See above)

Good luck, my system has never let me down.

  3. i normally let my kids pick a horse each and i go with the name normally, but the kids seem to have a good thing picking horses never failed..

  4. There are so many methods that people use: the horses name, a favourite jockey, the colour of the silks.  I even have a friend that always backs the grey horses in any race - she has a tough time in the Grey Handicap at Newmarket every year!

I usually find that because I work in the industry I have a tendancy to over-analyse things and as a result usually end up losing.  My best tip is that you should always go with your gut instinct, and my gut is telling me to back BILLYVODDAN this year.
