I recently bought a new camo dipped shotgun for waterfowl hunting. I usually like to put a light coat of oil on my guns when I store them for long periods. Is it ok to oil the camo parts? or if I get oil or cleaning soliventson the gun will it damage the camo finish?

  1. There is no reason to leave a light film of oil on the whole exterior of the shotgun. The sub-surface is protected by the camo skin. If or when you get a worn through tor cut in the camo then a touch of oil to prevent corrosion will be necessary on the affected area..

  2. Just use Rem-Oil for cleaning and lubrication.  I wouldn't leave a coat of oil on the gun - it's pointless.  Spray the gun with lubricant, wipe thoroughly with a dry rag or towel, and you're set.

You need to leave weapons heavily oiled only for long term storage of 2 years or longer.  In which case grease on the gun and oil on the cloth wrap are your best rust/rot protection.

  3. If you are thinking a camo is different than a blued, there is no difference.  You use the same cleaner on a camo that you would use on a blued.  Use a rust inhibitor on all parts of the gun.  Use a good copper powder solvent on the inside.

If you remove the trigger assembly, be careful on how much solvent you put on the inside of the trigger.  Some of the stuff on the market is very strong and can eat the small springs around the trigger assembly.

  4. I have a Benille that is camo and i use Hooper number 9 oil on it just like i use on all my other guns it has not affected it at all an i have been cleaning and storing it this way for about 4 years
