  1. your suposta clean them??

  2. 1 get a basic cleaning kit for the appropriate caliber (45)

#1 unload the gun, keep it pointed in a safe direction, feild strip the gun.  For the ruger, it should be

    a) drop the magazine out, clear the chamber, stick your finger in the chamber to make sure, lock the slide back.

    b) look in from the chamber down the mag well, you sould see a little metal protrusion about 4mm wide, 10mm long.  If you point the gun to your left, it should be closer to your body than the middle.  Push this  forward, down and in.  It is on a bigger peice of metal you can't see right away and is hinged a bit lower in the gun.

    c) with the slide locked open and flipper down, Look on the slide and on the frame, there should be a line on the slide and on the frame. You will be lining these up in a second.  look at the slide release, see how it is long, and attaches to a pin that goes through the gun? see where that pin comes out the other side? put your finger on that, you will be pushing that pin out so the whole slide release comes off once you align those lines.

    d) pull the slide hard to the rear. (if it slips just decock the gun aka lower the hammer, reopen it and make sure the flipper is down) and press downward on the slide release so the slide can come forward, now slowly allow the slide to come forward until those lines are aligned.  Once they are aligned, push on the pin and the slide release should come up a little. Grab it with the pin pushing hand and pull it all the way out.  Now, continue forward with the slide. It should come all the way off the gun.  If it doesn't, your gun got recocked or the flipper isn't down.  Slide it back, insert the sliderelease pin and lock it open, and redepress the flipper.

    e) redepress the flipper as soon as the slide is off

f)take the slide and turn it upside down.  you will see a spring on a rod, with a funky hook at the end. Note how the hook aligns with some groves below it if you push it forward a little? that is the delay lockup. Now, press the hook end of the rod forward, not enough for the hook to go into the groove cut for it, but just enough to lift it off the barrel.  Let it come foward again, now you can just pull it out,

g)now you see the hook from the guide rod matched a peice connected to the barrel. Lift up on that just a little bit and slide it forward, now you can lift it up at an angle and slide it out. That is the barrel and the chamber.

    Clean time.

Put some gunpowder solvent on a rag, and clean the inside of the slide mostly right around the ejection port. Grab the lower half and do the same there.

Now, grab the chamber and barrel.  Grab a fitted patch from your kit or rip up a bit of paper towel. Soak it with the gunpowder solvent, and using the rod, push it through.  Let the solvent soak for about a minute, then push a clean patch through. repeat 5 times, or until it comes out clean, but remember after one shot the gun is dirty again, so just do it 5 times. wipe off any gunpowder reside on the front of the chamber.

oil, put only the tiniest drop on the spring on the guide rod, and on the spring under the hammer.  You don't want too much there it will gunk up. pull the trigger, see the parts that move, oil them just a little.

now, put a fair amount of oil on the inside of hte slide, on the grooves where the slide rides on the frame.

put some oil on a patch and pass it down the chamber and barrel to protect that as well.

    Reassemble

Put the barrel in, let it come out the barrel hole then slide it back until the barrel is flush with the side.  It should lock in place so it doesn't move unless you lift it up a bit first.

Grab the guide rod, look at what part of the hook matches the groves in the chamber.  Make sure you put that part down.  Stick the guide rod in it's hole and push in until the hook aligns with the grove. Now, keeping the guide rod level, let it come forward so the hook comes out, but another bit about 10mm further down the guide rod should catch the rod, match with a peice on the chamber, and retain it.

Make sure the guide rod is all the way down tight against the chamber.  Make sure it is centered by looking where it catches the chamber protrusion, make sure both sides are flush. That should do it for the slide.

Now, grab the frame. make sure the flipper is down.  put the slide stop back in all the way, now slide it out almost all the way. Pull it until you can't see any of the pin on the inside, and then pull it a hair more. let it dangle.

put the slide on, back end first, over the rails.  if the slide release slides back in, pull it out and continue moving the slide back.  It should go all the way into it's normal position.  Now, slide it back even further until the two lines on the slide and frame align.

Push the slide release all the way in.

work the slide a few times to make sure everything is okay.  The flipper might come up or it might stay down (if you insert a magazine, the mag will push it up) so if it isn't cocking when you work the slide, reach in and pull the flipper up.

  3. If you have lost your owners manual, you can view one online at www.ruger.com.  The owner's manual will contain instructions specific to your particular gun.

The most important thing to do when cleaning is to double and triple check that your gun is unloaded.  Some people will even remove all ammunition from the cleaning area as an extra-precaution against absent-mindedly reloading it before the cleaning process is completely finished.  Basically, you take a cotton patch dipped in solvent and clean out gun powder residue from the barrel and the chamber.  Then you use clean patches to remove any residue from the solvent.  Then you add a very small amount of oil to a few spots as directed in the manual.  Too much oil can cause problems.

  4. go to your local walmart and buy a 45 cleaning kit

  5. Razor, cleaning your gun can be a trying experience. It depends on how familiar you are with it. Lets say your a new firearm owner, first ask the local gushop if they have someone on staff that can show you the kit to use and how to breakdown your pistol. Also become familiar with the drawing of the parts so you can identify them. If you are just shooting a few rounds to become used to the feel then you can probably get by with cleaning the bore, wiping down the slide and barrel and put a drop of oil on each side of the slide. When you start to shoot alot more and start to see more residue around the slide and under it you'll need to break the pistol down. The basic steps are to retract the slide, release the latch and separate the slide from the reciever. Remove the barrel and use a decent kit and cleaner. When you see no more residue apply a light coat of oil and reassemble your pistol. Wipe the outside down and your ready to store it. I know that breaking down some pistols can be challenging, ask a friend, have the local range coach help or point out someone who knows your pistol brand, or ask at a local gun shop for breakdown pointers. I had some young sailors and marines who would pick it up the first time through. Other times it might have taken a dozen times for them to be ready to do a teardown. Just take your time, be patient, lay out the parts in the order they come apart and practice every now and then to keep yourself proficient with your weapon. Best of luck.

  6. Use "pull through"which is inserted from top with a metallic thing around the fine ropeThe metallic thing comes down and it can be pulled through while cleaning, entire rope comes out, If not clean again it will be passed through. That's why it is called "pull through."
