  1. Algae? Eek! This must mean that the water is not chlorified properly. Is it tap water? And would you yourself drink the tap water? If not, then it isn't suitable for the bunny either. It might be best if you boil the water first. This will kill off any potential algae or other bacteria and prevent their growth.

As for cleaning, vinegar is actually a great tool for cleaning anything! If you fill the bottle up with a bit, and swish it around, it will work like magic and remove that cakey build up water creates. Make sure to rinse the vinegar out very well with hot water after wards.

I avoid scrubbing the bottles because then tiny scratches that you cannot even see form in the plastic. This is terrible as bacteria will build up in those little scratches, and eventually, you will need to buy a new bottle.

  2. Well, first of all, wash it in hot soapy water and rinse well.  Then to sterilize it and make sure it's clean (I have asthma AND i HAVE TO STERILIZE MY MACHINE EACH NIGHT)  sorry, caps got stuck.  Anyway, to completly sterilize it, soak it in a small bowl, just enough to cover it, with a mix of 1 part white vingear and 3 parts water.  Let it soak 1/2 hour and it will kill anything.  Then rinse in hot water.  Vinegar is cheap, distilled water is cheap.  But maybe a new water bottle would be cheaper?  And if you washed and rinsed it whenever you refilled it, it shouldn't get algae to begin with.  You wouldn't want to drink out of a dirty glass, would you?

  3. i had the same problem, don't worry. it didn't harm my rabbit, i recommend using an old tooth brush and scrubbing out the bottle as best you can. then rinse it out with water a couple of times.

    i hope i helped :)

  4. That happned to my rabbits water too. Get a bottle cleaner, and scrubb where the algea is. Them get soapy water (you can include some bleach) and shake it up, so that you get it all out!

the keeps the water bottle out of the sun.

  5. i have rabbits. use mild soap and scrub scrub scrub. make sure it doesnt smell soapy when youre done. wash with really hot water. wait for it to cool down, then put hose water in the bottle. give it clean water everyday!!

  6. fill the water bottle with water and put dish detergent or soap in with the water. s***w the cape on and shake it a bunch, squeeze a little through the drinking capsule. Than dump all the soapy water out and replace it with just plain water and do the same thing until you can't see soap anymore, and there you go.
