  1. never us e acidic cleaners like lemons, vinegar, or compounds similar. try baking soda and water mix , also a little turps on a cloth helps the shine

  2. It sounds like you already know that marble is soft, porous and all that stuff.  Be sure its sealed before you use it.  As you probably guessed, cleaning it is a pretty gentle process.

    The Shoulds:

--Dust the counter once or twice a week with a soft cloth

--You can wash marble once in a while with a cloth dampened (not wet) with warm water and, if you have to, a little bit of any mild dish-washing liquid (e.g. Ivory)

-- Rinse the soap off with another damp (not wet) cloth

    The Should Nevers:

--Don't use anything waxy (like a dusting spray) or abrasive cleaners (like Ajax)

--No all-purpose cleaners or harsh soaps

--Keep anything acidic (cleaning product or food) off of it

The best care is preventative.  Coasters and mats under anything wet or heavy, re-apply the sealer every one or two years when water stops beading, get at any spill right away.  You can keep it shiny by regularly using a marble polish (from the hardware store.)

It sounds like its a showpiece, which it sort of is, but you should enjoy using it too.  It'll last for a long, long time.  :)

  3. Marble will eventually become dirty no matter how hard you try to keep it clean. Run lukewarm water over a soft clean sponge, and ring out the sponge until it's barely damp. Gently wipe the marble, and dry it with a clean soft cloth. Buff the marble until it shines.

  4. Try car wax is works great! There is a cleanser on the market called Gel Gloss  but it works exactly the same as car wax. Once you have a coat of wax or Gel Gloss on the marble all you need is to wipe it with a damp towel and it will come clean.

  5. You should use products made especially for marble, there are several you can find in the market.  Never ever use anything containing ammonia as it will wear off the finish and take away the shine.  I am a professional cleaner and have used some kitchen cleaner solutions on marble that do not contain ammonia.  If you have it in your kitchen it is more than likely that you will be using it a lot so try to polish it with marble wax periodically to keep its luster and protect it from harsh spills.

  6. Chances are, your favorite kitchen cleaning product isn't formulated to clean marble counter tops. Marble can be cleaned using warm, sudsy water or a solution of borax and water. Thoroughly rinse and buff dry. To remove stains from marble, make a paste of baking soda and bleach and cover the stain with the paste. Cover the paste with a damp cloth, leave overnight, then wet down and scrape off residue. Rinse thoroughly. You could also try a paste made from 20% hydrogen peroxide and powdered whitening from the paint store, using the same method. A commercial marble cleaner is another alternative. You may want to seal the marble to make future cleanings easier either with a commercial sealant or a coat of high quality automotive polish...
