How do you clean out the inside of a tube type television?

I would like to clean the dust and s**t from the inside of my television to make it last longer.

  1. Tube televisions have air vent that allow for air circulation.  If you feel you need to clean the TV, say if you were sanding gypsom and didn't cover it, you can spay canned air into the vents.  

    Please, don't open the TV.  Tube TV's, unlike computers are not intended to ever be opened after manufacture and components within them store large amounts of electricity that can kill if their touched.

    To extend the life of your TV you can cover it, either by placing it in a TV cabinet that protects it from dust, or with a TV cover when not in use.


  2. Cleaning the dust out will not make the set last longer in general !Most of the nice clean TVs are that way often because they are in the workshop often !!

    However that is not what you asked !!!

    Use the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner and a paint brush and brush the dust etc towards the nozzle ! That is the way its done in most workshops !!Course you can use compressed air and blow it if you want the dust all over your lounge room !!!
