Question:

How do you clean/sanitize chapstick?

I use small tubes of vaseline chapstick for my lips, but naturally over time the outer edge where the cap screws on becomes covered in stray lint and other things. I'm positive that they are probably carrying germs--is there a way to keep the head of the tube cleaner? I highly doubt running a Clorox wipe over them is going to do me any good--yuck!

  1. A 70% Ethanol solution Sanitizes any surface and evaporates almost instantly. It is used in the food industry to Sanitize surfaces without rinsing.

  2. Wash the head of the tube with toothpaste and rinse with hot water.

  3. Just toss them and buy new- they are cheap enough.

I always buy chap sticks in packs on sale for that reason- so I can just toss them and not worry about it.

  4. If you leave the top off to dry the cleaning solution in a clorox wipe would soon evaporate and you'd have nothing to worry about, and it wouldn't taste of it.

You could also try a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol, the rubbing alcohol evaporates even quicker and will leave no trace.

I also like the toothpaste idea.
