How do you clean up toilet ring wax?

Question

My husband took off the toilet to get out a plastic car that accidently got flushed down the toilet and he replaced the wax ring when we put the toilet back, but he also the old wax on the floor, in the sink, in the bathtub and on a plastic garbade can, and nothing seems to get it off, any suggestions?
