Depends on whats wrong with it.

If its bugs- just boil it.

If chemicals-boiling makes it worse.

Check with your local board of health.-they will have all the answers.

filter it and boil it,, or use perification tablets, I have in the past used bleach but people from uppon it.

Well water should already be clean when it comes out of the tap,, if the water is turning you bathtub and sink orange then you need a water softner.

You can boil it certainly, or save the work and get an under-counter reverse osmosis system with UV to kill critters.  Best investment in your peace of mind you will ever make.
