  1. Step1

Make it a house rule to "clean as you go." Wash dishes immediately after meals, for example. Have kids pick up and put away games after playing them. Fold and store the laundry as soon as it comes out of the dryer. Recycle old newspapers and junk mail before it piles up.

    Step2

Put everyone in charge of simple chores like emptying their own trash can and straightening and dusting their room. Reward the family with dinner out or a trip to the movies if everyone completes their tasks for a month.

    Step3

Create a "go back" basket that you keep at the bottom of the stairs. Place items in it throughout the day (instead of scattered all over the house), then carry it up once and return everything to the proper place before bed.

    Step4

Use simple storage like labeled baskets and bins wherever possible. Even the kids will be able to find what they need and toss it back easily when done.

    Step5

Buy an assortment of cleaning wipes for quick clean ups throughout the day. Place containers in bathrooms and the kitchen so family members can wipe up after themselves.

    Step6

Set up a simple 20-minute maintenance routine that you perform each night while the kids are brushing their teeth and getting ready for bed. Return items from the "go back" basket, wipe surfaces and prepare your "to do" list for the next day. You won't have to do much before bed if everyone chips in throughout the day.

  2. get plastic tubs that is what i like to do just put every thing in there until you have time to clean i just clean on Sunday

  3. Start with one room at a time.  Get 3 baskets.  One as a trow away basket, one as a keep it basket, and one as a basket to put things you want to keep but don't have a place for them yet.  The living room should be the easiest.

Those plastic see through bins w/ drawers in them work great in bathrooms.

Also the big rubbermaid tubs work good for organizing closets and toys in kids' rooms, too.

I have a shoe organizer hanging on the back of my closets.  It has these little metal hangers that you hang on the inside of the closet door, and 12 pouches for shoes.  So when you open the door, you can see the shoes.  Those work great for other things, too.  Like belts or even toys, etc...in kids' rooms.

You can always buy those little white wire shelf thingies at just about any hardware store or even at Wal Mart for the kitchen.  They work great for spices!  And you can get the bigger version of them for under the  cabinets for cleaning supplies etc.

Just make a habit of putting things back where they belong after you get done with them to keep yourself from having to 'organize' all the time  You'd be amazed at the difference it makes by simply doing that.

  4. ~I invite my mother to spend a few weeks with me.  I'm not worried about keeping it clean, because I can always have her come for another visit.  If I had her visit more often for shorter visits, it would be easier on both of us.  She lives too far away for that to be practical.

Mom, if you see this one, I love you.  See ya soon (I'm almost out of dishes again.)

  5. Find a place for everything and put it there.  Every time.
