Question:

How do you clean your retainers?

They're about three years old. usually i just let them rinse over night in denture cleaner. I've noticed calcium build-up on them for most of that time and I figure that it's just a natural thing. However, recently, there have been some yellow spots on them and i can't get it off. i usually have them cleaned at the dentist, but they just rinse them off and scrub. how do you clean your retainers? what homemade or store bought solutions could i use to get them really clean and not so gross?

  1. brush them like you do your teeth

  2. I wash mine everyday with soap and water

and you could soak it in like mouthwash I do that too

  3. tooth brush with tooth paste!

    use cold water.

hot/warm water will cause the plastic to change form and it wont fit right!

  4. retainer bright worked on mine for almost 4 years. but when i went into the ortho for a checkup they said it shouldn't of been then clean for 4 years so i got a new one. if its more then 3 years go back and tell to make you a new one. but retainer bright works so well!

  5. A toothbrush, toothpaste, and  EFFERDENT (which is denture cleaning stuff)

  6. I always just brushed mine with toothpaste and my toothbrush.

  7. vinegar

  8. I use Retainter Brite. Look it up on google. It has been really wonderful for me. Check it out! :)

  9. Uhm, what I do with my retainer is leave it in a mouth wash solution when I'm not wearing it. Try an antibacterial mouth wash, therefore the bad breath causing bacteria that builds up on your retainer will die and bad breath won't be a problem.

Scrub your retainer with tooth paste and a tooth brush (not your every day tooth brush that you use on your teeth, buy a special brush only for your retainer)

It's common for your retainer to collect calcium, and yellow spots, as long as you keep it sparkling clean than it won't be an issue.

    Good luck?

    Haha.

  10. Rubbing alcohol gets like everything out. just take a Q-Tip and dip it in rubbing alcohol and clean it. It will take the yellow stains you were talking about. just make sure you rinse it with soap and water after because rubbing alcohol doesn't taste that good!

you can also soak it in mouthwash or take toothpaste and your toothbrush and clean it. But use the rubbing alcohol first to get the yello stains off.

  11. Ok i don't know if i can help you that much...but i can try.  I have had my retainers for about a year and a half so not as long as you.  But what i do is i wear them at night and then during the day i rinse them off with water and soak them in crest whitening mouth wash.  Mine have not changed colors yet.  So maybe you should try that!

  12. When I brush my teeth I usually brush my retainer, too. Separately though. It seems to work. Wait...? Do you have a clear or regular retainer?

  13. I also use a denture cleasner for mine.

Brush them with GEL toothpaste everytime you take them out and then let them soak. That should help. But make sure to use gel or you'll s***w them up.

    Good Luck.

    Works for me :)
