so annoying.

I was playing this one guy and he kept hitting loads of topspin making it jump really high so it was hard for me to reach. He moves me from side to side and I eventually fall apart. Is their a solution because I can't find any.

  1. A lot depends on your game style. If you also tend to hit with a lot of topspin, you can play back farther, allowing his ball to peak and then hit it as it drops. This makes it easy to hit topspin because you are hitting along the same plane as the ball flight.

Second, you can "overpower" his topspin with your own, Preferably by stepping in and taking his ball before it gets too high. This is what Federer often does when hitting his forehand against Nadal's heavy topspin. It requires good timing and a commitment to swing through the shot with power. You have to reverse the opponent's spin, which you can do if you have good topspin shots of your own.

A third option, especially for someone who has a good slice, is to take it earlier, as it is bouncing up, and hit down on the ball to create backspin. This is highly effective for a couple of reasons. First, you are using his topspin to generate backspin, making it relatively easy to hit slice. Second, if you hit a good slice it will bounce lower and make it harder for him to continue to hit with slice. He quite likely doesn't like sliced balls that are hit short, so try that first. You will undoubtedly need to practice this shot beforehand, but once you get used to it you will find it to be an excellent option.

    Good luck!

  2. slice

  3. If they are hitting slow topspin shots with little pace on them, I say attack the net with a flat approach shot. They will hit the ball high and you can have an easy volley and win the point on your terms.

  4. Hit the ball earlier but counter it with a rising shot

  5. Block his shot with an under spin & make the ball drop just across the net, a drop shot & be ready to give him the same doze of top spins, left & right & see if he can also have a solution to that.

You must be very quick to anticipate where his top spins will land so ya will be early to hit the ball back to him & do the above  solution.

Beat him the next time around buddy

  6. If he is grinding hard with a lot of top spin, you should do the following things.

    1.  Keep moving, although you may feel like the rallys are long and slow, you still have to move your feet or your game will break down fast.

    2.  Use his topspin do your advantage.  Since you have more time to get to the ball, try running around it and hitting the ball on your stronger side.  For example, if he is spinning it to your backhand, running around the ball to your forehand would be a good idea.

    3.  Play YOUR game.  Make him change his.  Make sure you let him know you are pumped after those long rallys.  Fist pumps are a must.  Let him know that every slow, top spin ball he gives you is an opportunity for you to take control of the point.

    4.  And if all else fails, keep the basics in mind.  Contact in front, follow through, watch the ball, ect.

    Hope that helps.

  7. step in and take the ball early.

take his time away. you have to learn to hit the ball on the rise.

  8. take ball on rise.. and put it away

  9. hit it outta the air. dont wait for it to bounce. or try hitting a good flat shot. he'll have a hard time getting spin AND power for it to go deep.
