How do you combine 2 functions without knowing their equations?

When you only have the t charts of two functions but not the formulas how do you combine the functions? For example, if you have these:

x 1 2 3 4 5

f(x) -3 -1 5 2 1

and

x 1 2 3 4 5

g(x) 12 9 6 0 6

How do you make a f+g(x) function? In addition, how would you make a f(g(x)) function? Please explain them both. Thanks!

  1. The f + g function is adding the f value and g value for each x

    So it's

    x   1   2    3   4   5

    f+g 9  8    11  2   7

The f(g(x))  You take the f of the g value for each x

e.g. f(g(1)) would be f(12) which in this case doesn't exist.
