Question:

How do you comfort a depressed Momma Cat?

My mother took in a stray cat to deter mice in our home. My mom didn't notice that the cat was pregnant at the time but when she did, she continued to house her and feed her. A few weeks later, she gave birth to 5 healthy kittens. My mother let the cat breast feed the kittens up until they were walking and pooping on their own. I want to say this was for about 1 month or less. Now, the kittens were given away and the cat is depressed. She looks around and cries for them, lays down and sleeps all the time and she's started sleeping on the dining room table (what does that mean?). How do I comfort her?

  1. If you can i believe cats can digest very small amounts of anti-depressents

  2. I think she needs a lot of TLC and have you thought about fostering kittens? Her own were taken away to early and now she's looking for them.

  3. Kittens should be kept with their mother for 6 weeks but your cat is depressed and just needs alot of occupying and loads of tender loving care. If she stops eating or continues to hide and be depressed take her to the vets.

  4. Go to shelters and find a couple of young kittens.

    Or get a older kitten.

When my cat had kittens we kept them for a couple of months.

Then sold them. The mother (and father) weren't very happy though.

Then a few months later she died and the male cat was very depressed because he lost his babies and his best friend.

But we got him a new kitten and until he grew up he loved him.

Just this year we got two new girl kittens a black and a white one.

He's taken a liking to the black one because it reminds him of her.

He's still kinda depressed. But he is getting better.

So getting kittens would probably stop her being so depressed

  5. r u sure she is depressed or in pain?

i heard somewhere that it hurts moma cats just like humans when theyr brests/ kitty b*****s are full of milk

maybe since u  gave the kittens away to early, shes all full of milk or something

idk i could be wrong but thats what i think can happen lol

  6. Kittens are supposed to be with their mothers for 6 weeks. Also she should of kept at least one of the kittens. Maybe she should get her a tiny baby kitten that she can take care of.

  7. First of all, DO NOT use ANTI DEPRESSANTS with out a vet's opinion!

It's true, they should have been kept with their mother longer.

As a solution, is their a litter at your local shelter she can foster herself? Another kitten perhaps?

If she cannot eat, drink or use the washroom, call the vet.

  8. give her back her kittens.

she is calling them to feed them.
